With FLVS Part Time the course work is real, the certified teachers are real, and the grades you receive at the end of each course are real. You choose your pace*, when you work, and how you communicate with your teacher. Thanks to rolling enrollment, you start and finish your courses when it is most convenient for you, 365 days a year. FLVS Full Time

What exactly does "full time" mean? Being enrolled as a student in Florida Virtual School Full Time (FLVS Full Time) means that FLVS is your school of record. You take courses with FLVS, receive grades through FLVS, and graduate with a FLVS diploma.

Why choose FLVS Full Time? With FLVS Full Time, you:

  • Take courses for FREE, as long as you are a Florida resident in any school district.
  • Take a full-time, online, course load at home.
  • Do your course work online, but maintain a traditional, 180-day school calendar and schedule.
  • Take up to six courses per semester as a high school student.
  • Register with FLVS as your school of record instead of as a homeschool student with your district—meaning FLVS Full Time manages your transcript.
  • Will be a full-time online student and graduate with a diploma.

How does FLVS Full Time work?

Just like in traditional school, FLVS Full Time runs on a 180-day school calendar. Students take their courses on an August – June schedule and have a standard public school course load. Students enrolled in FLVS Full Time must also meet all the same public school requirements for attendance, graduation, and standardized test preparation.

The primary difference is that FLVS Full Time is all online. Each course has a real teacher that guides you through the course work, which is broken down into modules. Teachers are available via phone, text, email, and IM, Monday – Friday from 8 a.m. – 8 p.m. As you work through the modules of your course, you will connect with your teacher to take exams online and to participate in discussion-based assessments over the phone. And, of course, teachers are available anytime you have a question.

Homeschool

What does "homeschool" really mean? At Florida Virtual School, homeschool students are registered with their local school district. That means your records are maintained by your school district and your parent/guardian is responsible for your curriculum. As a homeschool student, we know that you have choices in how and when you learn. So, whether you are looking for a single course or a full-time solution, you can enjoy ultimate flexibility with Florida Virtual School.

Homeschool students can take courses on a fixed schedule through FLVS Full Time, while maintaining registration as a home education student in their district of record.

  • Have the option to take up to six courses per semester as a high school student.
  • Follow a traditional, 180-day school calendar and schedule.
  • Continue to keep your records with your school district. Your district of record continues to manage your transcript and graduation requirements. Therefore, you do not receive a FLVS Full Time diploma.

With FLVS Part Time, your student:

  • Takes courses for FREE, as long as your student is a Florida resident in any school district.
  • Enjoys curriculum flexibility. You set the pace and the schedule for your student.
  • Keep your student's traditional school as the school of record. The traditional school maintains all records.

*As a part time student at FLVS, you have a voice in deciding how you will work through your course. We call that "establishing pace." When you begin your FLVS experience, you collaborate with your teacher and make a commitment to your pace. For example, you can zoom through your course, never having to wait on the rest of the class. You can plan around your extracurricular activities, never needing to choose between Band and Calculus. You can plan ahead to slow down and take more time on topics that you find difficult, never again worrying about not 'getting' topics like genetics or the Pythagorean theorem. At the end of the day, "any pace" means your pace, as long as you are achieving, learning, and showing forward momentum weekly.

In order to be eligible to take a course, students need to meet one of these:

  • The student spent the prior year in a Florida public school and was reported for funding in the October and February FEFP surveys.
  • The student is a military dependent who moved to Florida within the last year.
  • The student was enrolled in district virtual instruction programs or Florida Virtual School’s full-time public school program the previous year.
  • The student has a sibling who is currently enrolled in a virtual instruction program and was also enrolled at the end of the previous year.
  • The student is eligible to enter kindergarten or first grade.
