For Alice Kate Berry, every day offers new experiences to keep life interesting. For those who never stop learning, life never gets boring. In Mrs. Berry’s classes, the subject is always new, conversation is always stimulating, and students never get bored.
Mrs. Berry says creativity is at the center of her teaching philosophy. Her approach involves the building of relationships in which students are respected as unique individuals who can understand new things from their own perspective. In class, Mrs. Berry’s ability to relate to the needs and talents of each student create real motivation to become an independent learner.
Mrs. Berry has taught for nine years. She began teaching art to students in Atlanta before moving back home to the Mississippi gulf coast. There she has taught subjects to gifted and talented students including, architecture, space exploration, drama, and archaeology. Her goal has been to never underestimate her students, or allow them to underestimate themselves. In 2003, Mrs. Berry was chosen by her school as Teacher of the Year. For the past three years, she has also served on the curriculum council in her school district.
Even prior to becoming a teacher, Mrs. Berry never found life to be boring. After graduating college she served as the gallery director for an art gallery in Atlanta. In college, she was an art therapist on the Alzheimer floor in a convalescent home
Mrs. Berry earned her Bachelor of Fine Art degree with an emphasis in 3-D design from the University of Southern Mississippi. She received a second degree in Art Education from Kennesaw State University. Mrs. Berry holds a teaching certification in art with a gifted endorsement.
