Katie Emery’s classes are filled with drama, passion and a large quantity of humor. They are interactive learning experiences in which Mrs. Emery’s desire to inspire is equally matched by her students’ desire to acquire new knowledge.
Mrs. Emery’s choice of a teaching career was influenced both by temperament and by her family background. Both her parents are teachers, and just about everything that Mrs. Emery has every learned she has wanted to share with others. Today, sharing with skill and enthusiasm has become her full-time job, and her parents could not be more proud.
A flair for delivering engaging presentations has also shaped Mrs. Emery’s career. For many years, she worked with the Ocala Civic Theatre in Ocala, Florida. She taught playwriting, clowning, dance, and acting to students ranging in age from five to eighteen. In addition, she choreographed and directed several stage productions with adult cast members. She also taught Acting, Musical Theatre, and Introduction to Drama in the International Baccalaureate Program at Vanguard High School in Ocala. While at Vanguard, she was chosen as the Rookie Teacher of the Year for the 2005-2006 school year.
There is another personal interest that has influenced Mrs. Emery’s teaching career. She loves English. She believes English to be the ultimate multidisciplinary subject touching on subjects that include history, sociology, politics, economics, philosophy and even math. For her, English is the study of life. Today, Mrs. Emery continues to share the multiple facets of life with her Florida Virtual School students. She believes that online learning provides students with multiple options for learning, and allows her to tailor instruction to meet the individual needs of individual students.
Mrs. Emery earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature from Florida State University.
