As the Chief Human Resources Officer for Florida Virtual School, Linda Peters is committed to quality programs to include recruitment, retention, teacher certification, employee benefits, employee relations, employment services, HR operations and compensation/salary administration. Her passion is to support faculty and staff who provide outstanding service to parents and students and works to ensure that all FLVS employees experience personal, professional success. Not surprisingly, the qualities that describe the ideal FLVS employee also describe Ms. Peters.
Over the past 35 years, Ms. Peters has accepted career positions of increasing responsibility. She began her career in private industry working as a billing clerk. Among her subsequent job advancements include executive administrative assistant for a national apparel manufacturer, and account representative for one of the big three credit rating services. In September 1990, she joined the Human Resources department of Orange County Public Schools, where she advanced through the operations section and was promoted to the position of senior manager in charge of staffing and providing quality human resources services for over thirty schools and the district’s Transportation Services department.
With the growth of FLVS services and staff, there arose a need for a veteran human resources professional. Ms. Peters was the natural choice. She was hired by FLVS as the Director of Human Resources in November 2004. Throughout her career, Ms. Peters’ approach has been one of fairness, honesty and respect. Her view is that people are among an organization’s most important assets. When employees feel valued, their company thrives. In the collaborative environment of FLVS, Ms. Peter’s approach fits right in.
As FLVS continues to grow, Ms. Peters will use her expertise to ensure efficiency in the development, administration and monitoring of human resource policies, procedures and programs. Another key component of her position involves formulating, recommending and implementing policies and procedures that are in compliance with federal and state laws, regulations and school policies.
Ms. Peters’ interest in nurturing the potential of employees is a product of her many life experiences. Most notable among those experiences is her family life where she is the first of nine children, currently has nineteen nieces and nephews and a great niece and great nephew. Throughout her career, individuals from all walks of life have experienced her sincere interest in people.
Ms. Peters earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education and Early Childhood from Florida State University.
