Sharon Boeckle

English
Florida Virtual School

For Sharon Boeckle, each encounter with another person is an opportunity to learn something profoundly new and different.  Each person has his or her own story.  Each person has his or her lesson to teach.  In Ms. Boeckle’s classes there are many such encounters, each of which makes life richer and more rewarding.

Ms. Boeckle’s approach to teaching involves facilitating a discourse.  A discourse between and among the teacher and her students.  There is also a discourse between students and the authors of great literature.  Ms. Boeckle believes that literature offers a kind of “psychological archaeology.” For her, history provides the facts, while literature provides the insights, the record of the feelings and experiences of others.

Ms. Boeckle has been teaching professionally for the past thirteen years.  During her last two assignments, she taught English III Honors at Boone High School, and AP Language at Olympia High School in Orange County.  She accepted a position with Florida Virtual School because of an attraction to her new school’s mission of providing educational choices.  She is also pleased to offer one-on-one assistance to students in an online environment that fosters a sense of partnership between teacher and student.

Ms. Boeckle enjoys creating the kind of literature that is realized on film. She has created three screenplays, one of which has been optioned by an Orlando production company.  She also writes for Lifestyles Magazine published in the Orlando area.  However, she is most proud of the knowledge, feelings and experiences she has shared with over two thousand students throughout her career.

Ms. Boeckle earned her Masters of Liberal Studies from Rollins College in Orlando, Florida.  Her Bachelors Degree in English Literature with a concentration in American Literature was awarded by the University of Maryland.
