Susan Porvaznik’s fourteen-year career has enabled her to work with students of every grade level from kindergarten to high school. Although the needs of her students have all been different, there is one common aspect to all her teaching. She has cared about every student, finding satisfaction in teaching something new to all students regardless of their age.
Ms. Porvaznik’s approach to teaching is to create a classroom environment of respect. It is the kind of respect that recognizes that every student is important, and that helping them achieve success is the most important thing a teacher can do. Ms. Porvaznik counts among her greatest professional accomplishments the times when she has watched her students walk the stage at graduation to receive their diplomas.
Ms. Porvaznik began teaching in Texas. Before coming to Florida Virtual School, she taught for thirteen years in the Sarasota County School System. Her decision to join the FLVS faculty was motivated by a desire to interact on a one-on-one basis with both her students and their parents. She believes that when learning occurs as a group process, the best interest of the student is achieved. Ms. Porvaznik has also worked as a tutor.
Ms. Porvaznik earned her master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from National-Louis University. Her bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education was awarded by the University of South Florida in Tampa.
