Florida Virtual School was recently honored with the EdNET 2007 Pioneer of the Year Award. The Heller Reports, a leading provider of education market news and events, announced the winners of this year’s EdNET Industry Awards at the 19th Annual EdNET Conference in Chicago. The annual awards program commends businesses and non-profit organizations that have made important contributions to the education industry.

ednet award“Everyone involved with Florida Virtual School is a pioneer in their own right.” said Julie Young, president and chief executive officer, FLVS. The award recognizes the organization that has taken the best leadership role in driving innovation in education or has developed products that have changed the educational landscape. It recognizes those that break with common practice to create innovative solutions or use existing programs in new ways. Florida Virtual School's efforts have changed learning opportunities for students across the world forever. By tackling sacredly held beliefs about local funding and control, about seat time or teacher tenure, and about performance-based learning and management, FLVS has changed forever the mindset that says, “It can’t be done."

“The EdNET Industry Award winners are organizations that are moving the business of education forward. They’re developing products and services that address the challenges faced by schools today as well prepare students for a 21st Century, global workplace. The Heller Reports and QED are proud to recognize these innovators,” said Andy Lacy, President of QED.

Florida Virtual School won the EdNet Impact award in 2006, given to the organization deemed to have made the most significant impact on education. In 2004, FLVS was proud to be a finalist for the EdNet Hero award.

The EdNET Industry Awards program was created in 1992 to champion the efforts of progressive organizations helping to revitalize the nation’s educational system. The EdNET 2007 Conference was held in Chicago on Sept. 9-11. For more information about the EdNET Conference and awards program, visit www.EdNETconference.com or phone 800-525-5811, ext. 9421.
