The leaders in virtual education, train the leaders of tomorrow. Apply for a FLVS internship.

History

The demand for online education is rapidly growing and FLVS' clinical experiences program is the most innovative program in existence, which is able to meet that demand. There is no other place where education majors can be fully immersed in an online classroom and receive such high quality preparation.

According to iNACOL annual review of policy in practice in 2012:

“The total number of students taking part in [online and blended learning] is... likely several million, or slightly more than 5% of the total K-12 student population across the United States.”

Faced with the rapid growth of online education, FLVS, the leader in online learning, realized its professional obligation and decided to open its doors in an effort to help preservice candidates prepare for the 21st century classroom.

In spring 2009, FLVS established its first university partnership with the University of Central Florida. What began as a small seven-week pilot with six junior level interns has developed into an open-access field experience available to junior, senior and graduate level interns.

FLVS offers over 150 courses across the 6-12th grade curriculum and has over 400 state certified clinical educators. FLVS’ University Partnerships offers a wide variety of opportunities from hosting education majors for a virtual classroom observation, a school counseling internship to a fully immersed clinical experience.

Since 2009 preservice candidates have selected a myraid of courses across the curriculum to complete their requirements including AP Calculus to Language Arts to World Languages. The most popular content area selected by a preservice candidate was the English/Language Arts followed by the Social Sciences, Math and Sciences, respectively. As of March 2014, FLVS has hire 35 previously served as pre-service candidates.

What people are saying:

“Teaching online is an experience I wanted to acquire due to how many courses are currently taught online. I believe it is the future of education!” ~ V. Santiago, UCF Intern

“My internship with FLVS prepared me both mentally and emotionally. There were times when I felt I was struggling, but was lucky enough to have wonderful and supportive teachers at my side. I may have been afraid to handle certain tasks, but FLVS helped me to grow confident in my choices. I’m so happy that I got a chance to be a part of something greater and now I’m a teacher with my very own class! I thank FLVS for my experiences as an intern and the opportunity become a better teacher.” ~ L. Delgado

“I believe this is the most important thing you can learn from and/or at FLVS. The student is first and every individual student is important. They are not numbers or a part of large class, rather they are individuals with unique learning styles and abilities that we address through one-on-one teaching.” ~ T. Johnson

“Upon completion of my internship I truly felt I had a good understanding of what teaching online would be like if I were to accept a position with FLVS. I gained a better appreciation for the job requirements and the professionalism of the instructors. Working with the students was really enjoyable and I had a new appreciation for their commitment to learning through the FLVS program. I very much appreciated the experience and feel it will serve me in my future teaching endeavors.“ ~ EPI Intern

What people are saying:

“…I believe all interns regardless of their planned teaching choice would benefit from being exposed to an FLVS internship experience. It can serve as an eye opener to those educators reluctant to accept and embrace that technology is already not only part of our everyday life so strongly that we don’t even realize it.” ~ J. Chacon, UCF Intern

“Making the transition from the typical classroom to the virtual one is no small change. However, with the encouragement of a caring mentor teacher and the guidance of the internship program at FLVS, I was able to learn the art of online teaching. The most rewarding choice during my pursuit of higher education was the decision to complete my final internship at FLVS.” ~ D. Noffke

“Teaching for Florida Virtual School was my dream job when I was 17 and a student in my senior AP courses here. As a college senior I had the opportunity to intern with FLVS and was able to see what FLVS looked like from the other side of the computer screen. I learned exactly what it meant to put the student at the center of every decision we make as educators.” ~ C. Tapoler
