The Public School Also Announces More Assessment Flexibility for FLVS Full Time Students of Military Families Residing Outside Florida
Enrollment for Florida Virtual School (FLVS) Full Time is now open for the upcoming 2023-24 school year. With Full Time Public School, students in grades Kindergarten-12 experience a unique and safe environment that combines the flexibility of online learning with the structure of a traditional 180-day school calendar. Open enrollment is slated to run through July 14, 2023.
Now more than ever, students and families are looking for flexible learning options to meet their individual needs. In fact, National School Choice Week reports that nearly half of all U.S. parents feel their communities are not offering enough education options. Plus, FLVS Full Time student count has significantly increased over the past three years - from 5,770 student completions in the 2019-20 school year to more than 9,600 students expected to complete their courses this year. Recently, more than 1,100 Florida Virtual High School seniors participated in the in-person or virtual graduation ceremony.
“FLVS Full Time is here for every Florida student and family looking for support, flexibility, and safety,” said Robin Winder, Senior Director of Instruction, Florida Virtual School. “Whether you’re looking for an alternative to the traditional classroom or a way to balance travel, sports, hobbies, and more, we offer dynamic learning experiences to help students get ahead, get back on track, and meet their goals.”
Additionally, Florida Virtual School is pleased to announce that beginning July 1, 2023, FLVS Full Time students of military families now have the flexibility to participate in assessment administration at their parents’ or guardians’ current military duty station. Families must submit a written request to include official documentation of the family’s current out-of-state military duty stationing for flexibility in assessment administration.
FLVS Full Time courses are taught by state-certified teachers using a curriculum developed specifically for the online learning environment to facilitate student success. As with a traditional school, students take six courses per semester and earn their diploma upon meeting graduation requirements. Students have access to more than 190 courses including core, elective/specials, world languages, Advanced Placement, and Career and Technical Education courses - all tuition-free for Florida residents. Additionally, students can participate in more than 60 clubs from gardening to coding, and more.
Alternatively, students looking to incorporate one or more individual online courses as part of their education plan for the upcoming school year can enroll in FLVS Flex year-round.
