Florida Virtual School Hosts First-Ever Virtual Student Career Fair and Expo

Professionals from Lockheed Martin, SeaWorld Orlando, Advent Health, and more, met with FLVS students to discuss career pathways

ORLANDO, Fla. (March 5, 2024) - More than 375 students and dozens of industry professionals from across the state attended the Florida Virtual School (FLVS) inaugural Student Career Fair and Expo on Feb. 29. During the multi-hour online event, students had the opportunity to network with professionals from across the state and attend presentations.

“Our high school students are our future, and with approximately 17,000 Lockheed Martin employees in Florida, we value our partnerships with education to help our state’s learners become future earners across Florida,” said Brooke Malsberger, Lockheed Martin Global Talent Acquisition Director, Rotary and Mission Systems.

During the virtual career fair, students heard from and met with industry professionals from 14 businesses and organizations, including: 

• Tampa General Hospital

• Lockheed Martin

• Rocket Drones

• Unmanned Safety Institute (USI)

• Orange County Fire Rescue

• Ralph Taylor’s Nurseries

• SeaWorld Orlando

• The Blue Collar Recruiter

Presentation topics included:

• “How to Make a Six-Figure Career”

• Technical and non-technical career paths from an engineer and operations manager perspective, including careers paths that do and do not require a college degree

• Small business and tabletop industry opportunities

“Our first-ever virtual student career fair demonstrates our commitment to preparing students for the workforce and beyond, ensuring they have the technical and soft skills to succeed in the Florida job market,” said Kaleigh McCoy, assistant principal of Florida Virtual High School and Career Fair organizer. “This is yet another example of the importance of providing career and technical education opportunities to our students, including real-world learning experiences that empower them to navigate an ever-changing workforce landscape.”
