The In-Person Event Recognized more than 200 Students for Their Dedication and Contributions to Over 60 Virtual Clubs

Elementary students perform yoga routines at the annual FLVS club awards.

ORLANDO, Fla. (April 10, 2024) — Florida Virtual School (FLVS) recognized more than 200 student leaders during the annual Club Awards Day on April 9 at the Rosen Centre Hotel in Orlando, FL. This in-person event highlighted the achievements of students participating in the virtual school’s more than 60 clubs. FLVS clubs, which include everything from gardening to coding, are open to students across the state in grades Kindergarten-12.

"Beyond accolades, our annual Club Awards offer the opportunity for our students to connect face-to-face, share experiences, and forge meaningful bonds with peers,” said Mae Martin, student activities manager. “This ceremony underscores the vital role of extracurricular activities in nurturing social growth, camaraderie, and enrichment within our virtual school community."

The event also featured performances by various student clubs, including demonstrations by the Mindfulness and Yoga Club, electrifying routines by the Elementary Dance Club to the song, “Can’t Stop This Feeling,” and a spirited performance from the elementary cheerleaders. Additionally, the American Sign Language (ASL) clubs showcased their proficiency in ASL through poignant renditions of “Don’t Worry Be Happy,” “Best Day of My Life,” and a collection of music created with the Glee Club called, “Songs of a Disney Hero.”

“Club Awards is a great way to meet students in person who you’ve already met in FLVS virtual club meetings,” said Alvin Luu, a Florida Virtual High School sophomore and treasurer of the National English Honors Society. “I love that I can interact with friends I’ve made from my online school,” said the Sarasota native.

Also during the event, students, families, and FLVS staff had the opportunity to view 45 student exhibit boards on display. The boards featured colorful and artistic representations of each club’s accomplishments this school year. From culinary arts to fitness, competitive gaming, and animal care, the displays showcased the depth of student engagement that can be achieved through online learning.

The event was made possible through the generous sponsorship of student awards by the FLVS Foundation, which continues to champion student success and enrichment opportunities.

With a selection of over 60 online clubs tailored to elementary, middle, and high school students, there's something for everyone at Florida Virtual School. These virtual clubs serve more than 9,000 students across the state and are a vibrant platform for them to connect, engage, and hone new skills outside the traditional classroom. To join a club, students are invited to attend the annual virtual Club Rush event, typically held in late August at the start of the upcoming school year.

Families interested in learning more about FLVS can visit the school options page. Additionally, families can enroll now with FLVS Flex (individual courses) or explore enrollment options for the 2024-25 school year with FLVS Full Time Public School (enrollment begins June 3).
