Florida Virtual School Students Connect with Industry Leaders at Virtual Career Fair
Florida Virtual School students networked with industry professionals during the second annual virtual Career Fair and Expo, gaining insights into diverse career paths and opportunities.
ORLANDO, Fla. (Feb. 28, 2025) — On Thursday, Feb. 27, more than 400 students participated in the second annual Florida Virtual School (FLVS) Virtual Career Fair and Expo, providing high school students with valuable opportunities to explore diverse career paths and connect with industry professionals across multiple industries.
“At FLVS, we are committed to connecting students with the skills and experiences they need to be college and career-ready,” said Amber Haber, teacher on assignment and Career Fair coordinator, Florida Virtual High School. “To ensure our students have the tools and skills they need to pursue their future careers confidently, our instruction team provided interactive career workshops leading up to the event and led engaging discussions with professionals during the fair.”
Students interacted and networked with professionals who shared insights into careers in aviation, healthcare, government, agriculture, the military, and utilities, including organizations such as Lockheed Martin, the Florida Panthers, the Guy Harvey Foundation, Florida Power and Light Company, and Palm Beach Orthopaedic, Institute during the event.
Industry Connections and Hands-On Learning
Throughout the day-long virtual event, students participated in various presentations covering careers in nursing, air traffic control, business ownership, and education. Additional sessions focused on high-wage trade jobs, military service, entrepreneurship, and teaching students practical knowledge about diverse career options.
“FLVS educators and staff are invested in providing innovative learning opportunities that connect education with real-world career pathways, ensuring our students are both college and career-ready in an increasingly competitive job market,” said Dr. Louis J. Algaze, president and CEO of Florida Virtual School.
Year-round Career Preparation at FLVS
As part of its commitment to preparing students for future careers, FLVS offers career-focused learning opportunities year-round. During Career and Technical Education (CTE) Month in February, students participated in virtual career workshops, honing essential workforce skills such as resume writing, interview techniques, and personal finance management. Additionally, students receive a subscription to Xello, a college, career, and future-readiness tool that includes career assessments, college exploration tools, resume building, and mentorship connections.
