Florida Virtual School Celebrates More Than 150 Students at Annual Club Awards
More than 150 Florida Virtual School (FLVS) students participated in the annual Club Awards Day, showcasing their talents and passions while also celebrating their achievements in the virtual school district’s than 80 extracurricular clubs.
Florida Virtual School (FLVS) celebrated more than 150 students at the district’s annual Club Awards Day on April 22 at the Rosen Centre Hotel in Orlando, FL. This highly anticipated in-person event showcased the talents and passions of students involved in the virtual school district’s more than 80 extracurricular clubs and activities, highlighting their creativity, leadership, and academic success.
“An essential part of a student’s educational journey involves forming connections with other students,” said Mae Martin, student activities manager at Florida Virtual School. “With more than 80 online clubs, there’s something for everyone at Florida Virtual School. These virtual clubs serve more than 9,000 students across the state and are a vibrant platform for them to connect, engage, and hone new skills that encourage confidence and a sense of community.”
During the event, FLVS students demonstrated these connections and highlighted their skills during multiple performances by various clubs, including:
- A calming yoga demonstration led by the Mindfulness and Yoga Club
- An energetic tumbling and jump showcase, along with spirited cheers by the Cheer Club
- A lively mock debate by students in the Speech and Debate Club, who blended persuasive arguments and humor as they debated the age-old question: cats or dogs?
- A creative skit by the Drama Club titled “The FLVS Chronicles,” which follows five students navigating the unique world of online education
- A collaboration between the Glee Club and the American Sign Language Honor Society of students singing and signing the songs “Over the Rainbow” and “What a Wonderful World”

Following the student performances, each club recognized outstanding members with individual awards for their dedication, leadership, creativity, and growth throughout the school year. From culinary arts to fitness, competitive gaming, and animal care, the awards showcased the depth of student engagement that can be achieved through online learning.
“Florida Virtual School clubs enrich my experience with online learning by encouraging interactions and building connections with other students who share the same unique and niche interests as me,” said Monica Cortes, a senior who takes individual courses through the FLVS Flex program. “It has been incredible to celebrate my fellow classmates' achievements at Club Awards Day.”
Heavily involved in FLVS clubs, Cortes is the Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) President and National Science Honor Society Parliamentarian. “FLVS clubs reinforce the concept of having soft and hard skills by encouraging leadership opportunities and preparing students for the future.”

The event was made possible through the generous support of the FLVS Foundation, the philanthropic organization of Florida Virtual School. The FLVS Foundation engages strategic partners and donors to invest in initiatives that ignite learning, improve educational outcomes, and prepare all students to become digitally confident, capable, and community-minded citizens.
To join a club, students are invited to attend the annual virtual Club Rush event, typically held in late August at the start of the upcoming school year.
Families can learn more about FLVS school options or enroll now with FLVS Flex (individual courses). Enrollment begins June 2 for the 2025-26 school year with FLVS Full Time Public School.
