More Than 1,250 Florida Virtual School Students From Across the State Graduate at In-Person Event
This Milestone Showcases the Power of School Choice, Allowing Florida Families to Choose the Education Option That Works Best for Them
More than 1,250 students from the Florida Virtual School (FLVS) Class of 2025 graduated May 27 at the Addition Financial Arena at the University of Central Florida.
More than 1,250 students received their high school diplomas from Florida Virtual Full Time Public Schools (FLVS Full Time) yesterday, May 27. The ceremony took place at the University of Central Florida in the Addition Financial Arena.
This milestone event, attended by thousands of students, family members, friends, and supporters from across the state, highlighted the achievements of students who chose a nontraditional, flexible learning path through school choice and excelled in a rigorous academic environment. FLVS Full Time is the only fully virtual public school district in Florida.
“With over 20% of the Florida Virtual School graduating class achieving summa cum laude honors, this milestone is a powerful testament to the effectiveness of online education,” said Dr. Louis Algaze, president and CEO of Florida Virtual School. “It demonstrates that when students are given the flexibility to learn at their own pace, are supported by certified educators, and utilize comprehensive online courses, they can truly excel.”
Additional stats that further highlight the success of the FLVS Full Time Class of 2025:
- The top five students have GPAs of 4.6 or higher
- 91 students participated in the National Honor Society
- 51 students completed more than 250 hours of community service
- 40 students graduating with the Cambridge Advanced International Certificate of Education (AICE)
- 16 students participated in the Spanish National Honor Society
- 15 students are graduating with either their Associate in Arts (AA) or Associate in Science (AS) degree, made possible through the FLVS dual enrollment program
This fall, graduates will attend prestigious colleges and universities across the U.S., including:
- Dartmouth College
- Elon University
- Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University
- Florida Polytechnic University
- Harvard University
- Loyola University
- Metropolitan Music Conservatory
- Princeton University
- Rollins College
- Savannah College of Art and Design
- The Pennsylvania State University
- University of Florida
- University of Maryland
Key highlights from the FLVS graduation ceremony included:
- A keynote address from the President and CEO of FLVS, Dr. Louis Algaze, drew inspiration from the Florida Virtual High School mascot, the Firebird, to highlight the resilience and strength of the graduating class.
- Linda Reiter, the chair of the FLVS Board of Trustees, offered words of encouragement to the graduates, inspiring them to “shape the future, to dream boldly, and to make a difference.”
- A powerful and heartfelt speech from the Class of 2025 Top Scholar, Felix Walther, that focused on his and his fellow students' growth and the limitless possibilities ahead.
- Four students received $1,000 scholarships from the FLVS Foundation to pursue higher education at a two or four-year college or university. These scholarships were bestowed upon individuals who exhibited remarkable leadership, determination, courage, resilience, and integrity while navigating challenges during their high school journey. These students include Makani Bugarin (Southeast Fla.), Donelle Grone (Sarasota, Fla.), Samantha Ramirez (Deltona, Fla.), and Jenna Ruedy (Largo, Fla.).
- 750 FLVS students from across the state - Panhandle to the Keys - walked across the stage to receive their diplomas.
FLVS Full Time continues to redefine education by offering flexible, high-quality learning tailored to each student’s needs with support from certified teachers. The public school district includes an elementary, middle, and high school. Students take a full-time course load and follow a traditional 180-day school year from August through May.
