FLVS Launches 13 New Courses for 2025-26 School Year
July 22, 2025
Florida Virtual School has 13 new courses for the 2025-26 school year, highlighting innovations in music, technology, entrepreneurship, and world languages. These additions empower students across Florida with flexible, future-ready learning.
Florida Virtual School (FLVS) is introducing 13 new online courses for the 2025–26 school year, enhancing flexible learning opportunities and expanding access to high-quality instruction statewide. This announcement comes as Florida reaches a historic milestone: more than half of K-12 students are now enrolled in school choice programs.
The 13 new online courses reflect a wide range of elective, world language, and accelerated courses, all of which allow students to discover their passions and interests before heading off to college and/or the workforce.
As Florida continues to lead the nation in educational choice, FLVS remains a trusted partner for families seeking flexible, high-quality online education.
“We believe students thrive when they have the freedom to explore subjects that truly interest them,” said Dr. Louis Algaze, president and CEO of Florida Virtual School. “With these new courses, we’re giving students even more opportunities to dive into topics they’re passionate about - whether that’s learning a new language, building foundational music skills, exploring artificial intelligence and machine learning, or taking a college-level course.”
At the forefront of this year’s launch are four standout offerings: a dynamic K-5 Music Suite, two Career and Technical Education (CTE) courses, and an Advanced Placement World Language course.
New FLVS courses launching in the 2025-26 school year include:
Elementary Music Suite: Inspiring Creativity in Young Learners
The new K-5 Music Suite is a vibrant, creativity-based program that guides FLVS Full Time and FLVS Flex (individual courses) students through a progressive exploration of music and the arts.
Kindergarten: Singing, listening, and movement activities build foundational musical and communication skills.
First Grade: Students create and play instruments, expanding their imaginative capabilities.
Second Grade: Musical literacy deepens, with interdisciplinary connections enhancing broader learning.
Third Grade: Improvisation, arranging, and cultural exploration foster creative risk-taking.
Fourth Grade: Students analyze musical structures, explore artistic intent, and investigate career connections.
Fifth Grade: Learners achieve musical proficiency and critical assessment skills, understanding music’s global and societal impact.
“This suite is a showcase of how music education can inspire creativity, collaboration, and lifelong passion,” said Jaimi Gruler, senior manager, elementary curriculum development of Florida Virtual School.
High School Courses: Preparing Students for the Future
FLVS is also introducing a robust lineup of high school courses designed to equip students with rigorous academic exploration, college readiness, and real-world skills.
First are the final courses in two Career and Technical Education Programs of Study, which are a progression of industry-focused classes that create accessible pathways to gaining skills and certifications students need for college and career success:
Career and Technical Education (CTE)
Business Ownership - Available to FLVS Flex students, this is the third course in the Entrepreneurship Program of Study. This honors-level course empowers students to develop a comprehensive business plan, master financial management, and create effective marketing strategies, preparing them to take the first step toward launching and operating their own business.
Machine Learning and Applications - As the final course in the Data Science Program of Study, students will explore the intersection of artificial intelligence and machine learning. Using Python, they will design and train models, examine the complexities of neural networks, and explore career paths in this rapidly evolving field. This course is available to FLVS Flex students.
Advanced Placement (AP)
AP Spanish Language & Culture - Available to FLVS Flex students, this course promotes fluency and cultural understanding through thematic units and encourages communication in interpretive, interpersonal, and presentational modes.
AP Physics 1 - An algebra-based, college-level course that explores motion, energy, momentum, and fluids through inquiry-based investigations and real-world applications. This course is available to FLVS Flex students.
AP Psychology - In this course, students dive into the scientific study of human behavior and mental processes, exploring foundational theories, research methods, and psychological phenomena. This course is available to FLVS Flex and FLVS Full Time students.
Electives
Creative Writing 1 - Students will explore poetry, memoirs, screenwriting, and more while developing their unique voice. Drawing inspiration from literary greats and personal experiences, they will cultivate creativity and storytelling skills. This course is available to FLVS Flex students.
World Languages
French 4 Honors - This advanced course deepens students’ mastery of grammar, vocabulary, and cultural nuance. Through authentic materials and interactive discussions, students will refine their reading, writing, and conversational French skills in both formal and informal contexts. This course is available to FLVS Flex students.
FLVS Flex is open for enrollment year-round for families that would like to incorporate one or more individual online courses into their education plan. FLVS Flex offers a self-paced, customizable learning experience that allows students to take courses on their own schedule and is ideal for homeschool families and students who want to accelerate, catch up, or supplement their traditional schooling. In addition to academics, FLVS Flex students can participate in a variety of clubs and activities, helping them stay socially connected and engaged in their interests.
For families seeking a comprehensive, full-time online public school experience, enrollment for FLVS Full Time is now open for enrollment through July 18. FLVS Full Time operates on a traditional 180-day school calendar and offers a structured, yet flexible, learning environment with certified teachers, live lessons, and regular interactions with classmates. Students enrolled in FLVS Full Time receive a full course load (typically six courses per semester) and can also participate in clubs, activities, and graduation ceremonies, just like in a traditional school setting.Related News
