Welcome to the NEW Florida Virtual School Blog
By: Kathryn Hodgins, Content and Public Relations Specialist, Florida Virtual School
Welcome to the new Florida Virtual School Blog - students, families, school counselors, and educators one-stop-shop for school life news and spotlights, online learning tips and resources, and industry insights. With more than 25 years of experience teaching students online, we hope to inspire families and educators to embrace online learning, help them navigate day-to-day schoolwork and activities, and cultivate a community of support.
As we share new blogs, you’ll meet talented subject matter experts from our school district, including our chief officers, school counselors, curriculum specialists, instructional leaders, teachers, and more. They’ll share tips they've learned throughout their careers and tools to help students, families, and staff succeed in an online learning environment. You’ll also hear from our students and parents directly, so you can experience FLVS through their eyes.
The Florida Virtual School blog will be organized into three sections: Homeroom, Flashcards, and The Report Card. To help you navigate the new setup, I’ve outlined the types of stories that will be featured in each section with examples. We’re so excited about this new blog and look forward to bringing our incredible school stories to life.
Homeroom: School Life News and Spotlights
Under the “Homeroom” section, we aim to shine a spotlight on the heart of our community – our students and parents. Expect to find inspiring stories that highlight their achievements, challenges, and aspirations. In addition to student and parent stories, we’ll share news about our virtual clubs, student activities, and important school notices, so you feel connected and informed about the vibrant life of our online school community.
Flashcards: Online Learning Tips and Resources
In the “Flashcards” section, you’ll find information about our FLVS school options, online course recommendations, and tips and resources to help you navigate the world of online learning. Whether you're a new FLVS student, a parent seeking guidance for your child, or a school counselor assisting students in making informed choices, this section will provide valuable insights and practical advice.
The Report Card: Industry Insights, News, and Trends
“The Report Card” section will explore online learning trends and best practices. Here, you'll find in-depth analyses and discussions on topics such as gamification and career and technical education pathways, as well as research and best practices that allow educators to meet every student where they are. We'll also celebrate achievements within our school community, including awards, recognition, and more.
