Honoring Top Online Students: 2024 Graduates
By: Kathryn Hodgins, Content and Public Relations Specialist, Florida Virtual School
With only a week left until graduation, it is with great honor and admiration that we turn our spotlight toward our online students who have excelled academically and emerged at the top of the 2024 graduating class.
These students embraced leadership roles, pursued extracurricular passions, and contributed to Florida Virtual High School in many ways. They served as mentors, volunteers, and ambassadors of academic excellence, inspiring their peers and leaving a lasting legacy for future graduates.
Join us in celebrating their accomplishments, honoring their dedication, and recognizing their profound impact on Florida Virtual School (FLVS).
Online Students at the Top of the 2024 Graduating Class
Jett James Pruitt, Palm Beach
For three years, Jett James has served as the Florida Virtual High School class president and will receive the Cambridge Advanced International Certificate of Education (AICE) diploma with distinction. Jett James authored the Pulitzer Prize-nominated book, “Through the Eyes of a Young American,” which reached Amazon's Top 20 Bestsellers in Politics.
A registered tribal member of the United Confederation of Taino People, Jett James is committed to protecting their indigenous language. During high school, he spent over 350 hours volunteering for a non-profit homeless charity, CareBag, Inc. As Class President and staunch supporter of FLVS, Jett James will give a speech during the Class of 2024 graduation ceremony.
Jett James will attend the University of London Institute in Paris, France, to study International Politics.
Chloe Hill, Cape Coral
Chloe has been a member of the National Spanish Honor Society for three years, is the treasurer of the National Honor Society, and participates with the FLVS American Sign Language Club. She is a Cambridge AICE, Advanced Placement, and dual enrollment student. In her spare time, she volunteers with Operation Gratitude, crocheting stuffed animals and scarves that are sent to the military, first responders, and their families. She also sells her creations online and at local craft fairs and markets.
Additionally, she volunteered with her local library and the Cape Coral Hospital summer volunteer program.
Chloe will attend the University of Florida's Honors Program and major in Biomedical Engineering. She will also participate in the invitation-only University Research Scholars Program.
Andrew Sklyarov, Osteen
Enjoying coding in his free time, Andrew will attend the University of Florida and major in Computer Science. He dedicates his time as an usher for the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra and volunteers as an English-speaking mentor to students from Ukraine, helping break the language barrier and offering friendship and support.
Jasmine Griffin, Oviedo
With a robust extracurricular calendar, Jasmine is a member of the National Honor Society and the National English Honor Society and was recently awarded the College Board National African American Recognition.
A cellist since fifth grade, Jasmine volunteers with A Gift for Music, teaching elementary-aged students how to play string instruments, and also acts as an online math and English tutor for underprivileged students. She served as the editor of the weekly newsletter for the International Youth Climate Action Team. Additionally, she attended the Yale University Young Global Scholars and New York Times summer programs and the Stanford University Winter Journalism workshop.
With all her extracurriculars, Jasmine noted that the reason she could participate in so many activities was because of the flexibility in schedule offered by FLVS. “Although each course has a pace chart, you can still set a schedule that is tailored to you and works with your volunteerism and extracurricular activities,” she said.
She will attend Tufts University this fall to study International Relations.
Vitoria Helman Maciel, Coral Springs
An active member of her church, Vitoria volunteers with the audio-visual program, acts as a youth leader and helps with the children’s and dance ministries. A math tutor with the FLVS Peer Tutors Club, Maciel also participates in Veritas, an online Brazilian book club.
“The flexible structure of FLVS allowed me to tailor my education to my specific needs and gave me greater control over my time, enabling me to explore subjects and interests beyond the standard curriculum in school,” said Vitoria. “Another great advantage of FLVS was the opportunity for dual enrollment, which prepared me for college and future challenges.”
She will attend the University of Florida to study Physics.
