Elementary students are limited to two clubs. On the application, there is room for three clubs in the event that one of the clubs is at capacity.
Middle and high school students can sign up for one to four clubs.
Our priority is to ensure that all student members actively participate in their club meetings and activities while keeping up with their coursework. Clubs are an extension of their learning, offering valuable experiences and skill development. However, we also emphasize the importance of continuous progress in their FLVS courses. Balancing club involvement with academic responsibilities is key to a well-rounded and successful educational experience at FLVS.
12. What happens if the club your student is interested in is at capacity?
If the club you are interested in is at capacity, students will be placed on a waiting list. However, students are encouraged to choose a different club they might be interested in.
13. How often do clubs meet?
Meeting schedules vary by club. Some meet weekly, while others might meet bi-weekly or monthly. Information about meeting times will be available during Club Rush and on the club's page on the FLVS website.
- Elementary clubs typically meet on the second and fourth Fridays of the month in the mornings. If the date falls on a holiday or other circumstances, the club sponsor will notify club members, and it will be posted on the specific club website.
- Middle and High School meeting times vary. Clubs usually meet once a month unless they compete, perform, or are an Honor Society. These clubs may meet more than once a month. The schedule can be found on the club website calendar. Additional meeting details can be found on the specific club websites.
14. What are club meetings like?
They're so much fun! Students chat with each other and share information. Club sponsors monitor activities and help support students as they work to achieve club goals. Ideas are shared, plans are made, fun is had – it’s a great time!
15. How do you participate in a club online?
All of the club meetings are online through video conferencing, the same system students use for their live lessons and collaborations. The club sponsor will provide the password to attend the meetings. Club members then use the microphone, chat box, interactive whiteboard, and video to participate.
16. How do athletic clubs like Run club and Cheerleading work in an online environment?
The club sponsors present various topics to the club members, including hydration, proper form, nutrition, stretching, and more. After students learn this information, they slowly start a “training schedule.”
For example, For the Run club, the training schedule may include walking/running with a parent and/or guardian. The distance students run will slowly increase as they continue to practice and implement all of the “good practice” skills and information learned during the club meetings. The goal is to move and enjoy being active with their family and eventually run/walk their first one-mile or five-kilometer event.
Cheerleading works in a similar manner. Club members learn the basic forms, nutrition, hydration, and stretching, and then, as a group, learn basic cheer movements. As the year progresses, club members combine everything they've learned into a fully formed cheer.
17. How can clubs benefit my child’s education?
Clubs offer students the chance to develop leadership skills, collaborate with peers, explore new interests, and enhance their college applications. Participation in clubs can also provide a sense of community and belonging within the virtual school environment.
18. Do clubs count for service hours?
Attending club meetings does not count for service hours. However, students can earn service hours by completing various community service projects. Several clubs will offer opportunities such as helping teachers, participating in school-wide events, and participating in panels.
