Explore Work Opportunities at the Career Fair and Expo
By: Kathryn Hodgins, Content and Public Relations Specialist, Florida Virtual School
The Florida Virtual School (FLVS) virtual Career Fair and Expo will be held on Feb. 27 from noon until 4 p.m. Building on the incredible success of last year’s inaugural event, which hosted more than 375 students and dozens of industry professionals, this year’s fair will allow high school students to network and explore career possibilities.
What to expect
During this multi-hour online event, FLVS high school students will:
- Network with industry professionals: Meet and interact with experts from a wide range of industries, including aviation, government, nursing, agriculture, the military, healthcare, and utilities. Companies participating include Lockheed Martin, the Florida Panthers, the Guy Harvey Foundation, Florida Power and Light Company, Palm Beach Orthopaedic Institute, and many more.
- Attend engaging presentations: Learn about various career paths - nurses, air traffic controllers, lineworkers, business owners, and teachers, among others. Additional presentations include careers that don't require a college degree, high-wage trade jobs, military service, and local business owners.
- Explore diverse career opportunities: From technical and non-technical careers, to small business and national-level industry jobs, students will walk away understanding the full scope of potential career opportunities.
Why students should attend
The Career Fair and Expo offers a unique opportunity for students to gain real-world insights and make valuable connections that can help shape their future careers.
"The next generation is our future, and that's why I'm so honored to share how students can turn social media into a thriving business," says Cristy Stewart-Harfmann, a presenter for this year's Career Fair and Expo who works at the Happy Family Blog and as a Florida Atlantic University professor. "It's crucial we empower students with the digital skills they need to succeed in today's market."
Take the next step toward the future
Throughout February, FLVS is celebrating CTE Month with virtual workshops focused on must-have career skills, such as resume writing, interview skills, and personal finance – all leading up to our virtual Career Fair and Expo on Feb. 27 from noon until 4 p.m. Students can meet with industry professionals, explore career paths, and start shaping their future.
