Florida Virtual School Recognizes Top Five Class of 2024 Graduates

More than half of Graduates Have a 3.5 or Higher GPA

ORLANDO, Fla. (May 13, 2024) — Florida Virtual School (FLVS), a statewide online public school district, is proud to recognize five students graduating at the top of the 2024 class. There are a projected 1,168 students from across the state in this year’s Florida Virtual High School graduating class, with the top five students hailing from Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers, Orlando, and surrounding areas.  

“More than half of our 2024 graduating class has demonstrated exceptional academic dedication, earning a GPA of 3.5 or higher,” said Suzanna Pacheco, Florida Virtual High School principal. “Our students’ commitment to excellence can be seen through their determination and grit, which embodies the spirit of Florida Virtual High School.”

Florida Virtual High School has long been recognized for its commitment to providing high-quality, flexible learning to students throughout Florida. During the 2022-23 academic year, the Florida Virtual School graduation rate increased to 92.6%, surpassing the previous rate by 2.6 percentage points. This accomplishment places Florida Virtual Full Time Public School among the top 10 non-lab school districts in Florida. 

The top five students graduating from the 2024 class, include: 

• Jett James Pruitt, Palm Beach: For three years, Pruitt has served as the Florida Virtual High School class president. The Cambridge Advanced International Certificate of Education (AICE) diploma recipient is a published author of two political books and will attend the University of London Institute in Paris, France, to study International Politics. A registered tribal member of the United Confederation of Taino People, Pruitt is committed to protecting their indigenous language. During high school, he spent over 350 hours volunteering for a non-profit homeless charity, CareBag, Inc.

• Chloe Hill, Cape Coral: Hill has been a member of the National Spanish Honor Society for three years and is the treasurer of the National Honor Society. She is also a Cambridge AICE, Advanced Placement, and dual enrollment student. In her spare time, Hill volunteers with Operation Gratitude, crocheting stuffed animals and scarves that are sent to the military, first responders, and their families. She also sells her creations online and at local craft fairs and markets.  Hill will participate in the Honors Program at the University of Florida and major in Biomedical Engineering. She will also take part in the invitation-only University Research Scholars Program.

• Andrew Sklyarov, Osteen: Sklyarov will attend the University of Florida and major in Computer Science. He dedicates his time as an usher for the Orlando Philharmonic Orchestra and volunteers as an English-speaking mentor to students from Ukraine, helping break the language barrier and offering friendship and support.

• Jasmine Griffin, Oviedo: With a robust extracurricular calendar, Griffin serves as a member of the National Honor Society, National English Honor Society, and volunteers with A Gift for Music and Youth Climate Action Team. She will attend Tufts University this fall to study International Relations. 

• Vitoria Helman Maciel, Coral Springs: An active member of her church, Maciel volunteers with the audio-visual program, acts as a youth leader, and helps with the children’s and dance ministries. A math tutor with the FLVS Peer Tutors Club, Maciel also participates in Veritas, an online Brazilian book club. She will attend the University of Florida in the fall to study Physics. 

Additional stats that further highlight the success of the Florida Virtual High School Class of 2024:

• 66 students participated in the National Honor Society
• 38 students completed more than 250 hours of community service 
• 20 students will join the military after graduation
• 17 students participated in the Spanish National Honor Society
• Five students are graduating with either their Associate in Arts (AA) or Associate in Sciences (AS) degree, made possible through the FLVS dual enrollment program
