FLVS Ranks No. 1 in State for Graduation Rates
More than 1,100 Florida Virtual High School students received their diplomas during the 2024 graduation ceremony in Orlando, FL. The 2025 graduation ceremony will take place May 27.
ORLANDO, Fla. (Jan. 16, 2025) - During the 2023-24 academic year, the Florida Virtual School (FLVS) graduation rate increased to 96.6%, an increase of four percentage points from the previous year, according to a Florida Department of Education report.
Florida Virtual Full Time Public Schools is now the No. 1 school district in the state for graduation rates among districts with more than 1,000 graduates.
Graduation rates, calculated by the number of students earning a high school diploma within four years, showcase the school’s success in guiding students toward achieving their academic goals.
“Over the past six years, our graduation rates for Florida Virtual High School have surged by nearly nine percentage points, reflecting the strength of our comprehensive and rigorous digital curriculum,” said Dr. Louis J. Algaze, president and CEO of Florida Virtual School. “The tireless efforts of FLVS teachers and staff in challenging and supporting students on their academic journeys have been pivotal in this upward trend.”
The Florida Virtual School full-time option is available to all Florida Kindergarten through 12th grade students interested in a fully online educational experience delivered in real-time by Florida-certified teachers. The public school district includes an elementary, middle, and high school. Students take a full-time course load and follow a traditional 180-day school year from August through May.
Other notable academic achievements of Florida Virtual Full Time Public Schools during the 2023-24 school year included:
- Ranked in the top 10 non-lab school districts in the state for all core subject areas on the Florida Assessments of Student Thinking (FAST) progress monitoring and End-of-Course (EOC) assessments (English Language Arts, U.S. History, Biology 1, Algebra 1, and Civics).
- Outperformed international test-takers in eight of 11 Cambridge Advanced International Certificate of Education (AICE) courses.
