FLVS and FlexPoint President and CEO Dr. Louis Algaze has been named in the Florida Trend 500 for his leadership in advancing online education and driving innovation in Florida’s K-12 system.
Florida Virtual School (FLVS) and FlexPoint President and CEO Dr. Louis Algaze has been named to the prestigious Florida Trend 500, an annual list recognizing the state’s most influential business leaders across key industries.
The Florida Trend 500 honors individuals who are shaping Florida’s future through leadership, innovation, and impact. Algaze was selected for his contributions to education, particularly his leadership in advancing online learning during the COVID-19 pandemic and in the years that followed. He continues to redefine digital education by championing emerging technologies, like artificial intelligence, in everyday teaching and learning.
“Education is evolving rapidly, and we must lead that change with purpose,” said Algaze. “Innovation matters, but what matters most is helping students succeed.”
Under his leadership, FLVS has expanded to serve more than 230,000 students statewide through its Full Time and Flex options. The organization now supports more than 3,700 team members, 1,134 private schools, and more than 2,500 public and charter schools in the state. A strategic focus on student-centered goals has led to a record-high graduation rate of 96.6% and top rankings in statewide assessments.
Algaze has also elevated online learning nationwide by collaborating with schools and districts across 47 states, the District of Columbia, two U.S. territories, and 45 countries. Through training, technology, and teacher support, FLVS has achieved a 100% customer satisfaction rate.
“This recognition is really about the people I work with every day,” Algaze added. “When you build a culture that values collaboration, accountability, and forward thinking, you create the conditions for students and team members to thrive.”
With more than 30 years of experience, Algaze has led school improvement efforts across Florida and beyond. He began his career as a teacher in Miami-Dade County Public Schools and rose through the ranks to principal and mentor. His expertise in school accountability, budgeting, and organizational leadership has earned him national recognition, including a seat on the University of Cambridge International’s Principal Advisory Board.
Algaze holds a Doctorate in Educational Leadership and a Master of Science in Education from the University of Miami, and a Bachelor of Science from Florida International University.
The full list of honorees appears in the October issue of Florida Trend magazine and online.
