December 18, 2025
Florida Virtual School continues to lead in academic achievement, staff excellence, and innovative online learning, providing flexible, high-quality education for students across Florida.
Florida Virtual School (FLVS) set new benchmarks in online education in 2025, earning statewide recognition for academic excellence, staff leadership, and groundbreaking innovations that continue to shape the future of virtual learning. From record graduation rates to groundbreaking artificial intelligence (AI) learning programs, FLVS continues to redefine what’s possible in online education.
Academic Achievement
Florida Virtual Full Time Public Schools (FLVS Full Time) ranked among Florida’s top-performing districts in the 2024-25 Florida Assessments of Student Thinking (FAST) progress monitoring and End‑of‑Course (EOC) assessment, in English Language Arts, U.S. History, and Biology 1.
The FLVS Full Time Class of 2025 graduated with distinction; more than 20% of students earned summa cum laude honors. Forty students received the Cambridge Advanced International Certificate of Education (AICE) diploma, and 15 earned an Associate in Arts (AA) or Associate in Science (AS) degree through dual enrollment.
Staff Excellence
FLVS leadership received notable recognition in 2025. President and CEO Dr. Louis Algaze was named to the Florida Trend 500 list of influential business leaders, and Chief Strategy Officer Nikki Lowrey was honored among Women We Admire’s Top 50 Women Chief Strategy Officers for 2025.
Recognized for its exceptional commitment to fostering a positive, innovative, and high-performing workplace culture, FLVS was ranked first place in the Orlando Business Journal’s “Best Places to Work in Central Florida” in the giant category for the second year in a row.
Additionally, Florida Virtual Full Time Public Schools earned the Purple Star School of Distinction, honoring its exceptional support of military families and ensuring consistent, high-quality education regardless of where they are stationed.
Innovation in Virtual Learning
FLVS introduced 13 new online courses for the 2025–26 school year, including electives, world languages, and accelerated options. Highlights include a creativity-based, K-5 music suite that guides students through a progressive exploration of music and the arts.
Innovation continued with the launch of the first-ever “AI in Math” enrichment program, developed in collaboration with the University of Florida, the Concord Consortium, and WestEd. More than 80 Algebra 1 students in grades 6-11 participated in the pilot, demonstrating measurable growth in AI literacy and math confidence.
FLVS continued to support compliance with Florida’s new driver education law, which requires anyone under 18 years old to complete a Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles-approved driver education course. Having served nearly one million students through its driver education course, FLVS continues to offer teen drivers its time-tested, flexible program taught by certified teachers.
Building Connections Beyond the Classroom
Beyond academics, FLVS fosters a vibrant student community through more than 80 student clubs and activities, from robotics and creative writing to coding and art. Clubs are open to students in grades K-12, across FLVS Full Time and FLVS Flex, with more than 7,500 students participating in 2025. FLVS also supported more than 25 in-person field trips, meetups, college tours, and other student activity events throughout the school year, encouraging students to connect, collaborate, and create lasting friendships.
Families interested in enrolling in Florida Virtual Full Time Public Schools for the 2026-27 school year should apply online beginning June 1.
