As workforce demands rapidly evolve and artificial intelligence (AI) reshapes industries, Florida Virtual School (FLVS) is helping lead the conversation on how education must adapt to prepare students for what comes next.
FLVS Deputy Superintendent and Chief Operating Officer Sam Verghese joined state education and business leaders June 23 at the Florida Chamber Foundation’s Learners to Earners Workforce Solution Summit at the Grand Hyatt Tampa Bay.
A featured speaker, Verghese led a session titled “AI Unlocked: Digital Learning Reimagined,” focused on how schools can equip K-12 students with the skills needed for an increasingly AI-driven economy. His remarks highlighted the growing importance of not only understanding emerging technologies but also applying them in meaningful, real-world contexts.
According to the World Economic Forum’s “Future of Jobs Report 2025,” 78 million new jobs will emerge globally by 2030, and according to the Florida Chamber's 2030 Roadmap, 775,000 net new jobs will be needed in Florida by 2030.
“As technology accelerates, students need more than just access,” said Verghese. “They need guidance, confidence, and meaningful opportunities to practice the skills that will shape their future careers. At FLVS, we are transforming with intention, ensuring AI is used responsibly and in ways that truly enhance student learning. Our goal is to help every learner build the readiness they need to thrive in Florida’s rapidly changing workforce.”
At FLVS, this includes developing AI-powered, hyper-personalized learning experiences that adapt in real time to each student’s progress, allowing learners to move at their own pace while building mastery and career-ready skills.
A longtime Florida Chamber Foundation board member and advocate for strengthening Florida’s talent pipeline, Verghese also shared a high-level perspective on how AI trends are shaping education at both the state and national levels. He emphasized the importance of collaboration between education and industry to ensure students graduate with relevant, adaptable skills.
The annual summit brought together leaders across sectors to explore solutions to close workforce gaps and position Florida students for long-term success in a technology-driven economy.
