Every Day is ‘Digital Learning Day’ For More Than 230,000 Students Enrolled in Florida Virtual School
February 13, 2025

Florida Virtual School students thrive in a flexible, supportive online learning environment, achieving record-high graduation rates and outperforming peers on state and international assessments.
ORLANDO, Fla. (Feb. 13, 2025) - This Digital Learning Day, Florida Virtual School (FLVS) is celebrating the accomplishments of its students and teachers while reminding all Florida families that they, too, can join the FLVS family. As a trusted leader in online education, FLVS provides flexible, high-quality learning options tailored to the needs of students of all ages across the state.
Digital Learning Day is an annual event held every February to recognize and celebrate incredible digital learning practices nationwide. It highlights the innovative ways teachers and students use digital tools to enhance education and inspire creativity. At FLVS, digital learning goes beyond the classroom, empowering students with the flexibility, resources, and support they need to thrive in an online environment.
“Digital Learning Day is the perfect time to celebrate the success of our students and teachers while also inviting more families to explore how FLVS can meet their unique learning needs,” said Dr. Louis Algaze, president and CEO of Florida Virtual School. “With flexible learning options, a curriculum designed for student success, and countless opportunities for social interaction, FLVS is more than just a school - it’s a community.”
For more than 27 years, FLVS has helped students reach their academic goals through personalized instruction, engaging curriculum, and opportunities for real-world connections. Whether families are looking for a full-time online public school or individual courses to supplement their child’s education, FLVS offers an option for everyone.
Customized learning paths for every student
Families can choose the learning path that best fits their needs with FLVS Full Time, a comprehensive online public school experience that includes elementary, middle, and high school. Students take a full-time course load and follow a traditional 180-day school year from August through May. Or they can choose FLVS Flex, which allows students to take individual courses at their own pace while remaining enrolled at their local school or for homeschooling. Both options provide the same high-quality instruction from Florida-certified teachers and a curriculum designed to support student success.
Engaging and age-appropriate curriculum
FLVS understands that online learning isn’t one-size-fits-all. That’s why the curriculum is designed to fit the needs of students at every stage of development. Younger students benefit from hands-on, offline activities that limit screen time while building foundational skills. Middle and high school students engage with interactive lessons, advanced coursework, and career and college readiness programs that prepare them for their futures.
A thriving social community
A common misconception about online learning is that students miss social interactions. At FLVS, nothing could be further from the truth. Students have access to more than 80 clubs, in-person field trips, and regional meet-ups where they can connect with peers who share their interests. Whether participating in virtual leadership summits, esports competitions, or local community service projects, FLVS students are part of a vibrant and engaged learning community.
Celebrating student achievement
FLVS students continue to excel academically, demonstrating the power of digital learning. Key achievements from the 2023-24 academic year include:
Record-high graduation rate: FLVS Full Time achieved a 96.6% graduation rate, marking a four-percentage-point increase from the previous year. This milestone positions FLVS as the No. 1 school district in Florida for graduation rates among districts with more than 1,000 students.
Top performance on state assessments: FLVS Full Time students ranked among the best in the state on the Florida Assessments of Student Thinking (FAST) progress monitoring and End-of-Course (EOC) assessments. Their exceptional performance placed FLVS in the top 10 non-lab school districts statewide across all core subject areas, including English Language Arts (ELA), U.S. History, Biology 1, Algebra 1, and Civics.
Outstanding international performance: FLVS students outperformed international test-takers in eight of 11 Cambridge Advanced International Certificate of Education (AICE) courses. The most significant outperformance was in the AICE English General Paper 1 AS, where 91% of FLVS test-takers earned a passing score compared to 74% of international test-takers.
