Online Education Leader Florida Virtual School Celebrates Digital Learning Day
Since 1997, Students Have Completed More Than 7.3 Million Semester Completions
Florida Virtual School (FLVS), a pioneer in online education, is proud to celebrate Digital Learning Day by highlighting the extraordinary achievements of its students, families, and educators. Digital Learning Day is a national event dedicated to recognizing and sharing high-quality instruction and future-focused student achievement that integrates technology through innovative and impactful approaches.
For 26 years, FLVS has been the leading provider of online education in the state demonstrating the profound impact digital education has on learners of all backgrounds and abilities.
Renowned for a high-caliber, evidence-based curriculum, dynamic course offerings, and individualized support from certified online teachers, FLVS served 241,920 students across the state last school year (2022-23).
“From eager learners seeking to accelerate their academic journey to athletes, artists, and homeschool students, Florida Virtual School equips students with the skills and adaptability they need to thrive in today's ever-evolving, technologically-driven society,” said Dr. Louis Algaze, president and CEO of Florida Virtual School. “Every year our students continue to perform above state and national testing averages, which is a testament to their hard work and the dedication of our educators to meet them where they are.”
During the 2022-23 school year:
FLVS students earned Advanced Placement scores that were 5.6 percentage points higher than the global average.
The district achieved a 92.6% graduation rate, which is 2.6 percentage points higher than the previous year placing Florida Virtual High School among the top 10 non-lab school districts in Florida.
FLVS ranked among the highest performing districts in the state for End-of-Course assessments in U.S. History (third highest), Biology (sixth highest), and Algebra 1 (ninth highest).
1,125 students graduated from Florida Virtual High School.
Additionally, 95% of FLVS students shared positive feedback about their teachers and 91% of parents felt that FLVS was the best learning experience for their child, based on the school district’s student/parent survey results.
Digital Learning Day serves as a poignant reminder of the transformative potential of online education and celebrates the diverse array of students who are flourishing with FLVS, including:
Bella Vest (Fort Myers, Fla.), a student in a brick-and-mortar school and math aficionado, accelerated her learning as a Florida Virtual School student by taking an eighth grade math course as a rising seventh grader and led her math club to the district championship.
Breanna Braithwaite (Kissimmee, Fla.), a private school senior who plans to pursue a teaching career, successfully completed the Principles of Teaching program through Florida Virtual School. The series of three courses is part of the FLVS Career and Technical Education curriculum.

She graduated from Florida Virtual High School in 2023 and currently attends the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).
Pranysqa Mishra (Valrico, Fla.), a rising singing sensation and fourth grader, thrived academically at Florida Virtual Elementary School while pursuing her passion for music thanks to the support and flexibility of her teachers.
Joi Turner (Miami, Fla.), an aspiring author and junior, appreciates the flexibility of her online courses, which allow her to work on her next writing project, during the times and places she feels the most inspired.
Lily Wood (Orlando, Fla.), a Florida Virtual School homeschooled junior, volunteers eight hours a week in the mornings at a local garden and nursery, exploring her passion for agriculture and experiencing hands-on opportunities in a field she hopes to join one day, all while earning volunteer hours for her Bright Futures scholarship.
George Cushman (Brandenburg, Ky.), a freshman at Florida Virtual High School, embraced online learning to maintain academic continuity despite multiple relocations due to his father’s career in the military.
