FLVS Alumna Places 5th in the World in Math Competition
Congratulations to FLVS alum Jessica Wan and Team USA, who won first place in the 65th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO), the world's premier high school mathematics competition! Jessica placed fifth overall and is also the first young woman to join the USA IMO team since 2007.

FLVS Girl Scout Earns Silver Award With Environmental Service Project
River Selser, an 8th-grade student attending Florida Virtual School, is the moving force behind P4P, or "Planting for Pollinators." Awareness of the rapid disappearance of pollinators, critically important for agriculture, has inspired Girl Scout Cadet to achieve the Silver Award, the highest award in Scouting, while teaching people about these important species.

Stefan Karatosic was born in Budapest, Hungary, and moved to the United States to compete at the highest levels of tennis. A junior at Florida Virtual School, he maintains an “A” average and is enrolled in Advanced Placement and honors classes.

Over 120 FLVS team members participated in the SimplyIOA Corporate 5K in downtown Orlando. Corey Wheeler, Sheila Grant and Lisa Hester, co-workers at Florida Virtual School, said they had put in a month and a half of step preparation for the event.

This May, Yanet Gomez will receive two diplomas: one from the Palm Beach State College (PBSC) Cosmetology Career Certificate Program and one from Florida Virtual School, making her both a college and high school graduate in the same month.

Joi Turner is a remarkable 15-year-old senior preparing to graduate from Miami Killian Senior High School with the Class of 2024. She has been homeschooled through Florida Virtual School Flex since middle school and has participated in the dual enrollment program at Miami Dade College.

Sarthak Gupta Wins Annual Congressional App Challenge
Sarthak Gupta used the programming language Python, which he learned in ninth grade at Florida Virtual School, to develop the app Signify, which uses image processing to convert sign language into English text, which is then spoken aloud by a text-to-speech synthesizer.

FLVS Alumna Becomes Polk State's Youngest Graduate
A graduate of Florida Virtual School, Abigail Mena became Polk State College’s youngest graduate at 15 years old. “I’ve always taken classes online,” she said. “My mom heard about dual enrollment, which was an opportunity for me to take college classes. I started skipping grades because I was working at my own pace.”
