Sarthak Gupta Wins Annual Congressional App Challenge
Sarthak Gupta used the programming language Python, which he learned in ninth grade at Florida Virtual School, to develop the app Signify, which uses image processing to convert sign language into English text, which is then spoken aloud by a text-to-speech synthesizer.

FLVS Alumna Becomes Polk State's Youngest Graduate
A graduate of Florida Virtual School, Abigail Mena became Polk State College’s youngest graduate at 15 years old. “I’ve always taken classes online,” she said. “My mom heard about dual enrollment, which was an opportunity for me to take college classes. I started skipping grades because I was working at my own pace.”

Thomas Faye, a Kindergarten student at Florida Virtual School, was selected as a top 12 finalist for the 2023 Florida Space Art Contest. The Lieutenant Governor selected the top 12 finalists, the Romero Britto Award recipient, and the two grand prize winners.

A New Record for Math Prize for Girls
Florida Virtual School senior Jessica W. was the winner of the 15th Math Prize for Girls annual contest, which was held Oct. 6-8 at MIT. She scored 17 out of 20 questions, which added up to make Wan the MP4G’s most successful contestant in its history; she also won the contest last year and in 2019, as an eighth grader.
